Privacy policy
Effective 1 November 2026
This policy covers the RigStop app and rigstop.app ("RigStop", "we"). In short: no account, no ads, no tracking. Most of what the app does happens on your phone.
What stays on your phone
- Your location is used on your phone to show where you are, sort campgrounds by distance and guide you along a trip. The one exception is trip planning, described below.
- Your settings, saved places, recent searches and trips are stored only on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
- Downloaded maps and the campground database are stored on your device.
What we receive
- Trip routes. When you plan or re-route a trip with signal, the app sends the trip's points to our server to get a driving route: your starting point (your current location if you choose "Your location") and the campgrounds you picked. Our server passes them to a third-party routing provider (such as OpenRouteService, Stadia Maps or the OSRM project) and sends the route back. Routes are cached for up to 30 days so the same request isn't repeated. They aren't linked to a name, email or account, and they're never used for advertising.
- Reports you choose to send ("Report a change", "Did your rig fit?"): the campground, what you picked, your rig length and any note you type. No name, email or account. Please don't put personal information in notes.
- Abuse protection. To limit misuse, our server keeps a salted, one-way hash of your IP address with route requests and reports. It can't be turned back into your IP address.
- Downloads of maps and campground data come from our storage provider (Cloudflare), which briefly processes your IP address to deliver the files.
Purchases
Subscriptions are handled by Apple and by RevenueCat, which we use to check whether your subscription is active. RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID and your purchase receipts, not your name or payment details (RevenueCat privacy policy). We never see your card details.
What we don't do
No advertising, no selling or sharing of personal data, no cross-app tracking, no analytics SDK.
Children
RigStop isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your choices and rights
You can turn off location in your phone's settings; the map, search and saved trips still work. To ask about or delete anything you sent, such as a report, email support@rigstop.app. There are no accounts, so tell us the campground and date. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have rights to access or delete information; we respond within 30 days.
Data sources
Campground information comes from Recreation.gov (U.S. Government, public domain) and OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL). It isn't personal data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and mention significant changes in the app.
